About Our Cashmere

A Gift of Nature
Cashmere is best known for its fine texture. Prized for its soft, yet strong fibers, cashmere provides natural light-weight warmth without bulk.

Cashmere is obtained from the Cashmere goat, which produces a double fleece consisting of a fine, soft undercoat mingled with a straighter and much coarser outer coat called guard hair. Our Cashmere is collected when the goats naturally shed their soft, winter undercoat during the spring moulting season.

Quality Counts
All pure cashmere is soft, but a garment's softness is not necessarily an indicator of its quality. Other factors, such as the fiber's length and strength, can greatly affect the life of a cashmere garment. Garments made from poor quality fibers are more likely to stretch out of shape, degrade and pill.

The quality of the cashmere fiber depends on the region where it is harvested and the methods of collecting and separating the yarn.

All our garments are made exclusively for us in Mongolia where the dry, cold climate, high altitude and traditional herding methods contribute to the country's reputation as a producer of some of the finest cashmere in the world.

We have a personal relationship with our producers and believe that when they are compensated fairly for their time and goods, we are contributing to the social and environmental standards in their communities.

Unlike other producers, who sheer or clip their herds, our cashmere producers hand-comb their goats each spring just as the soft undercoat is naturally being shed. A time-honoured tradition among nomadic herders, hand-combing removes the soft fibers while leaving the goat's thick guard hairs intact. This harvesting method not only yields an exceptionally long, soft and light-weight fiber, but also provides the goats with better protection against the elements by leaving their guard hairs in place.
