Our Story
The Cashmere Shop journey began in 1993, after my father, Alaster Currie, traveled to Mongolia on a United Nations geological mission as one of the first westerners to enter the country after democratization.
Scottish-born, and with an eye for knitwear, Alaster fell in love with the exquisite cashmere Mongolia's people had to offer, soon befriending some of the country's finest producers.
Upon his return home to Toronto, my father decided to start up a mail-order cashmere business, working with the producers he had met while in Mongolia. The business grew quickly and soon the doors to our first location opened on Yonge Street, just north of Eglinton.
In 2003, my father decided to follow his adventurous spirit and return to Mongolia to set up an irrigation and farming business, and so he handed the business over to me. Twenty-two at the time, I left my studies at McGill University in Montreal to start on a new and exciting path.
I began by redesigning our brand, renovating our current location at 24 Bellair, and designing more contemporary garments to supplement our classic collection. I also added the custom design business we have since become known for.
With so many valued customers around the world, we have long wanted to take our mail order business online. Now, with the launch of our new website, the superior cashmere you have come to count on us for is even easier to order.
We trust you will enjoy our products as much as we do.
Sincerely,
Alison Currie
