The Brown Dilemma
The Brown Dilemma

Now, I’ve never once woken up thinking, You know what’ll turn my day around? Dressing like a macchiato.
But here I am, a responsible retailer, folding mocha sweaters like it’s a spiritual exercise in surrender. Fashion, after all, waits for no personal opinion.

Apparently, brown is the “it” colour this season. Everywhere I look—runways, magazines, influencers clutching their $12 oat-milk lattes—it’s fifty shades of cappuccino. Chocolate, caramel, “mushroom,” “taupe,” “latte foam after 10 a.m.”—there’s even a shade called “wet sand,” which sounds less like fashion and more like a laundry problem.

We’ve given brown the full royal treatment: front-row display, flattering lighting, a spot beside my beloved jewel tones (who are currently whispering, Who invited her?).
And because I’m nothing if not committed, I might even wear one. Maybe I’ll suddenly feel “grounded,” “earthy,” and start journaling about “warmth and texture” while sipping cinnamon tea and pretending I understand why everyone’s obsessed with beige interiors.
Or maybe I’ll just look like I fell asleep on a leather sofa and never got up.
Time will tell.
Until then, brown—welcome to the family.
Please behave yourself.
